Leo Modrcin
Leo Modrcin is an architect living and working in New York and Croatia.
Born in 1960 , he has been educated in Croatia and the United States of America.
Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb in 1984
and continued graduate studies at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture, Brooklyn,
New York, where he obtained Master of Architecture degree in 1988, with
the Stanley Katz Award for Excellency in Design.
Since 1988, Leo Modrcin has worked as a practicing architect with prestigious architectural offices such as Ricardo Bofill-Taller de Arquitectura / NewYork, Yendo Architects/Tokyo, New York and Tarik Currimbhoy Design and Architecture/New
York, Bombay. Since 1992 he has developed an independent practice involved
in a number of residential and commercial projects.
Parallel to his professional work, Leo Modrcin has participated in numerous
architectural exhibitions including Project DMZ (1991) with the Storefront for Art and
Architecture in New York, the Fenster Galerie in Frankfurt, Germany(1990).
Also collaborated with the architect Lebbeus Woods on his exhibition in
Zagreb, Croatia in 1992, as well as other projects organized by the Research
Institute of Experimental Architecture, directed by Lebbeus Woods.
Leo Modrcin has also participated in numerous architectural competitions
such as 3rd Takiron Competition in Japan (with Andrea Ljahnicky,1992-Honorable
Mention), the Croatia's Government Complex in Zagreb (1996-Special Citation)
and 11th Membrane Design Competition in Japan (1996-first prize).

Since 1992, Leo Modrcin has regularly appeared as a guest critic at many
architectural schools and has taught design courses at the Pratt Institute,
Industrial Design Department, Brooklyn, New York and the University of the
Arts in Philadelphia.
