Established “Noto Reconstruction Support Office” in Taiyo Tent Hokuriku

Aiming to respond quickly to requests from each affected municipality and region

(Head office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Head office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura; hereafter “Taiyo Kogyo”), which is engaged in large-scale membrane structures (tent structures) and civil engineering and logistics materials, has established the Noto Plant (Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture; Representative Director: Norihiko Ikeda; hereafter “Taiyo Tent Hokuriku”). (Headquarters: Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture; Representative Director: Norihiko Ikeda; hereinafter “Taiyo Tent Hokuriku”) has established the Noto Reconstruction Support Office at its Noto Plant (Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture), which will begin full-scale operations in February 2025. More than a year after the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024, the Noto Plant is still facing delays in reconstruction efforts. By establishing a new organization within the Noto Plant, which is located close to the affected area, Taiyo Tent Hokuriku will be able to better understand the needs of the affected municipalities and establish a system to respond quickly.

Taiyo Tent Hokuriku's main efforts to support reconstruction

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa

The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, one of Japan’s leading art museums, was established in 2004 with the aim of “creating new culture” and “creating a new lively town” in Kanazawa. Due to the disaster, the ceiling of the special exhibition room, which was made of glass, fell down. To reduce the risk of the ceiling falling, Taiyo Tent Hokuriku installed a translucent/waterproof membrane material as a temporary ceiling. The temporary ceiling became a beautiful ceiling suitable for an exhibition space that is not suitable for direct lighting, and is now being used as an exhibition space that attracts many visitors as before.

(2) Facade installation at temporary housing on Mitsukejima, Suzu City

Nine two-story wooden temporary housing units in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, built mainly by world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban, winner of the Pritzker Prize, also known as “the Nobel Prize of architecture,” are now in use. Taiyo Tent Hokuriku installed the facades to shelter the houses from the snow, wind and rain this winter. Taking advantage of the lightweight and easy-to-install mesh membrane material, the installation was completed in approximately 3 weeks after receiving the order.

(iii) Support for road reopening along the Noriyama-Kaido road

The “Noto Satoyama Kaido”, a motorable road connecting Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and the Noto Peninsula, was severely damaged by the earthquake. Taiyo Tent Hokuriku is supporting reconstruction work on many collapsed sections by laying concrete canvas, which can be used to create a concrete surface simply by pouring water on it, between the Anamizu IC and Koshinohara IC.

Taiyo Tent Hokuriku has approximately 50 employees divided into three sales fields: construction, civil engineering, and events. The newly established “Noto Reconstruction Support Measures Office” was established with 17 employees (concurrently serving as employees of the three sales divisions and the engineering division). By establishing the task force at the Noto Plant, which is close to Wajima City, Suzu City, and other areas where reconstruction has been delayed due to severe damage, the office will respond to requests for reconstruction assistance in a wide range of fields, including architecture and civil engineering, in accordance with the actual conditions in the area.

Taiyo Kogyo Group's Response to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake

Taiyo Kogyo and Taiyo Tent Hokuriku have concluded disaster support agreements with nine municipalities in Ishikawa Prefecture. Based on this agreement, when the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024 occurred on January 1, 2024, we provided three McQuick Shelters, hybrid air tents that can be quickly set up in an emergency or disaster, to Nanao City, which requested them on January 2, by January 3. Since then, we have responded to requests from Ishikawa and other prefectures, providing 42 Mc-Quick Shelters and more than 480 Quick Partitions as part of our emergency response. Currently, Taiyo Tent Hokuriku is playing a central role in supporting reconstruction efforts tailored to local needs.
