DX Field, a new facility of Osaka Institute of Technology, membrane structure constructed

A demonstration center for drone data science that supports future learning

(Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a manufacturer of large membrane surface structures (tent structures) and civil engineering and logistics materials, has been awarded a contract to construct the DX Field, a new large-scale demonstration facility at the Hirakata Campus of Osaka Institute of Technology (Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture), The “DX Field” is a new large-scale demonstration facility at the Hirakata Campus of Osaka Institute of Technology (Hirakata City, Osaka).

The “DX Field” uses Taiyo Kogyo’s proprietary “Flex System,” a membrane construction method, to create a large interior space that requires no pillars. While ensuring the spaciousness and height required for drone flight exercises, it also provides a highly visible space that utilizes natural light.

The newly completed “DX Field” was constructed in a short period of eight months from the start of construction, while maintaining high quality, by combining the manufacturing of components at the group’s own factory with the membrane structure technology that has been cultivated over many years. The roof and exterior walls are made of a membrane material that gently transmits light. During the daytime, natural light is brought in to minimize the use of lighting fixtures, thus achieving both energy conservation and comfort. The facility is also ideal as a drone training facility in that it reduces the effects of reflections and glare from artificial lighting and provides an environment with high visibility.

The DX Field was developed in conjunction with the opening of the Department of Real-World Information Science in the Faculty of Information Science and Technology at Osaka Institute of Technology in April 2025. It will be used as a base for practical research, education, and the birth of on-campus ventures in smart mobility services such as robots and drones. It will also serve as a place where students can foster their ability to tackle real-world issues through research, development, and practice with an eye toward social implementation, such as applications in logistics, agriculture, and disaster prevention, the development of large-space VR technology using multi-viewpoint shooting systems, and the use of motion capture for sports analysis.

The Department of Real World Information aims to develop human resources who will take on the challenge of creating future services that utilize real-world information through the application of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, IoT, and drones, and will offer practical classes using actual equipment from the first year and interdisciplinary education with a view to contributing to the SDGs. The “DX Field,” which will serve as the center of education and research, will be the stage for drone-related and data science-related practical training and exercises, and will also be used for classes to learn piloting skills and knowledge for national certification in cooperation with the drone school.
