Horizontal Recycling “Ticon” Test Operation Begins for Full-scale Implementation

Running type flexible container bag "Horizontal Recycling" is the first of its kind in Japan

(Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a company involved in large membrane surface structures (tent structures) and civil engineering and logistics materials, will begin test operations in early 2026 toward full-scale implementation of flexible container bags (product name: Ticon) for horizontal recycling. The test operation will begin in early 2026. The test operation will be conducted at the premises of one company through Lombic Corporation, which operates several businesses related to synthetic resin, and one other company. These two companies plan to conduct the test operation* for about three years. Full-scale implementation** is planned to begin as early as the summer of 2026. This will be the first horizontal recycling of running-type bags in Japan.

*Test operation: Collect and verify data on recycled products over a three-year period, including life expectancy settings.

**Full-scale implementation: To be used in the same way as the existing “Ticon”.

Flexible container bags are logistics materials for transporting powder and granular materials such as synthetic resins, chemicals, foods, and compound feeds, and have supported the domestic distribution of powder and granular materials for many years since the high economic growth period. Since 1963, when we succeeded in developing flexible container bags and launched our business, we have been a leader in the powder and granular material bag market. We manufacture both “cross-type” bags, which are designed for one-time use, and “running-type” bags, which can be washed and used repeatedly. Our strength lies in the running type, for which we provide not only manufacturing but also comprehensive cleaning, maintenance, and management services, and it is widely used in Japan as a logistics system with low environmental impact.
Many of our mainstay running-type bags, “Ticon,” are made of EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin), and we have been utilizing waste bags as recycled pellets. We are further advancing this reuse utilization and promoting the completion of a scheme for horizontal recycling.

Ticon Recycling Initiatives

2013 Obtained certification under the wide-area industrial waste certification system (plastic products)
2021 Start of full-scale recycling initiatives
2021. First prototype bag using waste bags
2022. Achieved JIS standard for the first time with the 6th prototype bag.
2023 Started joint research on recycling with Lombic Co.
Year 2024 Performance test with the 7th prototype bag with enhanced red-lacquered scratch protection
2025. Performance test with 9th prototype bag
2026 Field testing started by one company through Lombic Corporation and one other company.

Reduction of environmental impact through reuse and horizontal recycling of tycoon

Durable and safe running-type flexible container bags are an indispensable logistics material in the domestic market. Compared to the cross type, which is designed for one-time use only, the running type, which can be washed and used repeatedly, is a logistics system that is inherently more effective in reducing environmental impact. Furthermore, the full-scale introduction of horizontally recycled bags will have an even greater effect on reducing environmental impact.

① Recycling of waste bags into pellets
Recycling of waste bags into pellets will realize 250 tons in 2024 (the largest amount ever).
Total amount of re-pelletizing from 2021 to 2024 is 400 tons.

(ii) Horizontal recycling of waste bags
If the horizontal recycling “Ticon” is fully implemented, and if 1/3 of all our “Ticon” installations are recycled, the amount of plastic recycled will be about 270 tons, which is about 7% reduction of CO2 emissions per year (about 25 tons/year).

About Taiyo Kogyo's Logistics Business

Taiyo Kogyo started its logistics business in 1963 with the successful development of flexible container bags suitable for the distribution of powder and granular materials such as synthetic resins, chemicals, foods, and compound feed. Initially used for the transportation of feed, the application gradually expanded to synthetic resins, chemicals, and food products, and the company has been a leader in the granular bag market to this day. With its strength in running types that can be reused not only for manufacturing but also through cleaning and maintenance, it is widely used in Japan as a logistics system with low environmental impact.
