Completion of girder make-up at the intersection in front of Namba Station, the latest construction results

(Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a company involved in large-scale membrane structures (tent structures) and civil engineering and logistics materials, has completed construction of a bridge covered with a membrane “girder make-up” at the Namba Station intersection in Osaka in October 2025 as its latest installation achievement. The project was completed in October 2025.

The repair was planned to improve the scenery of the Namba Station intersection, where the number of visitors to Osaka is increasing, against the backdrop of urban development in anticipation of the Osaka-Kansai Expo and the expansion of inbound tourism from overseas.
Girder Make-up” is our proprietary technology that covers the space under the girders of road bridges with membrane material to improve the landscape, ensure the brightness of the space under the elevated structure, improve maintainability, and improve the environment through photocatalyst. In this case, the soft design characteristic of membrane materials and the reduction of management burden for long-term operation were highly evaluated and led to the adoption of this product.

(1) Landscape Improvement
Membrane materials are lightweight and flexible, making it possible to meet unique design requirements, including curved surface shapes. It is also expected to be applied to new urban staging, such as lighting up and signage functions, taking advantage of its affinity with lighting.

2) Securing brightness of space under elevated railway tracks
With a high visible light reflectance of approximately 80%, the illuminance under the girders reaches 7,000 lx on sunny days, approximately 2.5 times that of conventional building materials (2,800 lx). This eliminates darkness under the elevated structure and enhances pedestrian safety and security.

(iii) Improved maintainability
“Girder Makeup” covers the area under the elevated structure with a light-permeable membrane material, which makes the interior scaffolding brighter and improves inspection efficiency. In addition, the membrane itself is resistant to rust and corrosion, eliminating the need for periodic maintenance such as painting and repainting, as is the case with conventional metal panels.

4) Environmental improvement by photocatalyst
The photocatalyst (titanium oxide) coating on the surface of the membrane material breaks down dirt adhering to the surface and maintains a beautiful white appearance for a long period of time (self-cleaning function). In addition, it is effective in removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the atmosphere, and tests have confirmed NOx removal performance equivalent to that of 12.6 passenger cars per hour.
