“Diverse Membranes that Transcend the Ages and Support the Future”

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation attracted attention with a number of large-scale pavilions using “membranes” at the 1970 Japan World Exposition (Expo ’70 Osaka). The U.S. Pavilion, in particular, was the world’s first to realize a low-rise “air membrane structure” that supported a huge oval roof 140 m long and 80 m wide using only air pressure.
The Tokyo Dome, where the company manufactured and installed the membrane roof on site in 1988 (Design: Nikken Sekkei Co. In 2000, the company was involved in the membrane roofing of the world’s largest dome, the Millennium Dome in London, and is still in use today as a permanent structure.
In 2025, at the Osaka/Kansai Expo, the company will be exhibiting the “Osaka Healthcare Pavilion Nest for Reborn” using ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene Copolymer) membrane, which is lightweight, highly transparent, weather resistant and chemical resistant, as well as the “Signature Pavilion” covered with a mirror-like mirror membrane. The company has realized more than 20 structures using various membranes, including “null2,” a signature pavilion covered with a mirror-like membrane, and “City of the Future,” a facade with two layers of mesh exterior membranes.
Founded in 1922 as Nomura Tent Shokai, the company has been actively introducing new technologies into its product development since that time, and even after the 1970 Expo, it has continued to take on new challenges with a strong sense of mission to “go beyond what was achieved in the previous Expo.

As a company specializing in “membrane structures” unparalleled anywhere in the world, the company’s diverse membranes have transcended the ages to support the future.
