The purpose of this renovation is to upgrade the functions of the main base that has been responsible for the manufacture of membrane structures for the 1970 Osaka Expo and the 2025 Osaka/Kansai Expo. In addition to updating aging facilities and strengthening the production system, a comfortable working environment was created.
The Hirakata Plant that Walked Alongside the Expo
The Hirakata Plant opened in December 1967 and began operations as an automobile interior plant, which was its main business at the time. In April 1968, the following year, the plant took on the role of a tent manufacturing plant for the Japan World Exposition (Osaka Expo ’70), and contributed to the popularization and development of membranes by working on the membrane structures for the “American Pavilion” and the “Fuji Group Pavilion” at Expo ’70. In addition, for Expo ‘2025 Osaka-Kansai, we manufactured membrane structures for many pavilions, including “City of the Future” and the “Electric Power Pavilion: The Eggs of Possibility,” demonstrating our technological capabilities as a manufacturing base supporting two Osaka Expos.
We have also been involved in a number of large-scale projects in Japan and overseas, utilizing our advanced technological capabilities, including the manufacture of large umbrella structures for Medina, one of the holiest sites in the Islamic faith (completed in 2011). In addition to large membrane structures, the company is also responsible for the manufacture of disaster prevention products such as the McQuick Shelter.
Main Contents of Renovation
In addition to updating the manufacturing facilities, the renovation included improvements to the employee workplace environment to create a production environment that is both more comfortable to work in and more future oriented. The manufacturing building features a membrane ceiling that creates a beautiful and comfortable space.
Through the renovation of the Hirakata Plant, Taiyo Kogyo will pass on to the next generation the manufacturing technology and spirit of monozukuri that it has cultivated over the years, and as a production base that continues to take on the challenge of creating new value, will contribute to solving social issues and to manufacturing in the future.
