Completed construction of a tent warehouse using “titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane material.

New warehouse at Toyohashi Works of a major German specialty chemicals manufacturer

October 12, 2023

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation (Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a company engaged in the construction of large membrane structures (tent structures), civil engineering and logistics materials, has been contracted by Lanxess Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jacques Perez), a leading German specialty chemicals manufacturer, to design and construct a new warehouse and quality control (QC) laboratory building in Toyohashi, Aichi. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jack Perez), a leading German specialty chemicals manufacturer, to design and construct a new warehouse and quality control (QC) laboratory building in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The opening ceremony for the facility was held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

The membrane storage tent warehouse, constructed in conjunction with the completed quality control (QC) laboratory building, will serve as a storage hub for rubber additive products and raw materials. Taiyo Kogyo was the prime contractor for the design and construction of the facility, including the on-site storage tent warehouse.

The storage units completed in the facility employ the “Flex System,” a construction method that achieves shorter construction periods and lower costs as our proprietary membrane structure construction. Flex House, a tent warehouse employing this system, is characterized by its environmental friendliness compared to typical buildings. By using lightweight membrane materials for the roof and walls, the amount of supporting steel frame can be reduced, and piling work is no longer required, resulting in a short construction period of 1.5 months from the start of foundation construction. In addition, the membrane material has high sunlight transmittance, enabling the realization of a bright and open interior space. No artificial lighting is required during the daytime, reducing energy consumption. The “titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane material” used in this project has a solar reflectivity of over 75%, suppressing temperature rise inside the warehouse, and has excellent antifouling performance, maintaining durability as a long-term roof material.
