(Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Masakazu Toyoda; hereinafter “Space One”), which provides small rocket launch services for small satellites.
Space One was launched in 2018 by Canon Electronics Inc., Shimizu Corporation, IHI Aerospace Inc. and Development Bank of Japan Inc. The launch site (Spaceport Kii) in Kushimoto-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, will be completed in FY2021, and the launch business will be fully operational this year, In the future, the plan is to achieve 20 small rocket launches on a regular basis per year.

Taiyo Kogyo, under the collaboration agreement signed between the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (JAXA), Tokyo University of Science Educational Corporation, and Shimizu Corporation, has started the “Space Colony Demonstration Module” (photo below) to verify space habitation space, which was created in 2019, and has led to the Space We have started the verification to related projects.
From 2021, we have been participating in the technological research and development of the “Project for Promotion of Innovative Technology Development for Unmanned Space Construction” (in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) as part of the “Strategic Program for Acceleration of Space Utilization” (Stardust Program), and in 2022 we are also involved in “Construction of a ground demonstration model for an inflatable habitation module on the Moon”. The membrane structure is small because of its flexibility. Membrane structures have the advantage of being flexible enough to be folded small and transported, and we have been actively researching applications of membranes that can be used in space.
With this investment, Taiyo Kogyo will take a step forward from its existing research and development activities in space, and will specifically aim to enter the space industry market. Taiyo Kogyo plans to actively introduce its membrane technology in space-related businesses, including support for the construction of facilities around the launch site on the ground.

TSP Taiyo aims to create special experiences in everyday life through our businesses such as event production, space production, disaster prevention, and art. As part of future collaborations, TSP Taiyo plans to materialize studies on PR activities in collaboration with the Kinan region, including the town of Kushimoto where Space One’s shooting range is located, as well as space production activities utilizing the range. In addition, we plan to actively engage in the formulation and implementation of training programs for companies and educational institutions, as well as public viewing and other events throughout Japan.
The investment by both companies will be made through their affiliated company, Taiyo Group Inc. By participating in the space business, the two companies aim to accumulate know-how and expand the scope of space-related business throughout the group.
