Roof McGuard, a curing sheet for covering damaged roofs, is born.

Long-term use from emergency measures to full restoration

(Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Hidefumi Araki), a “membrane manufacturer” that handles large membrane surface structures (tent structures) and civil engineering materials, has developed a curing sheet “Roof McGuard” for efficient emergency measures in the event that the roof of a house or other structure is damaged in a disaster. Roof McGuard” has been developed and will go on sale on October 5, 2012.
Roof McGuard, developed and launched by Taiyo Kogyo, is a first aid product that quickly cures damaged areas of roofs when roofs of houses and other structures are damaged by large typhoons or major earthquakes.

Recent natural disasters, which have caused extensive damage over a wide area, have significantly increased the number of buildings damaged, and even after emergency measures are taken, more and more time is required before the main restoration work can be completed. However, the conventional emergency restoration method of covering buildings with curing sheets and securing them with ropes and sandbags has often resulted in rainwater infiltration due to deterioration of the curing sheets and sandbags. Therefore, there have been growing expectations for the birth of “curing products for disaster-affected roofs” with superior weather resistance and functionality that can be used over the long term.

Against the backdrop of these needs, Taiyo Kogyo began development in January of this year and commercialized this unprecedented (according to our own research) sheet for curing damaged roofs. The material used is a high-strength special sheet that is resistant to ultraviolet rays and has about three times the weather resistance of conventional blue sheets.

In addition, to allow selection of the curing method according to the scene of installation, the lineup includes two types: the ” sandbag pocket type ” (one type, size: 5.4 m x 5.4 m), in which a pocket for inserting sandbags is welded to the sheet, and the “net integrated type” (four patterns, maximum size: 7.2 m x 5.4 m), in which the sheet and net are integrated to provide stable restraint performance and to prevent the sheet from flying apart in unforeseen circumstances. The lineup includes two types: the ” net integrated type ” (4 patterns, maximum size: 7.2 m x 5.4 m), in which the sheet and net are integrated to ensure stable restraining performance and to prevent the sheet from scattering in unexpected situations.

The price of “Roof McGuard” is 50,000 yen for the “sandbag pocket type” and 10,000 yen, 15,000 yen, 24,000 yen, and 38,000 yen for the “net integrated type,” depending on the size (both prices are shown without tax).

Taiyo Kogyo will sell “Roof McGuard” to roof repair companies, etc., and through “disaster agreements” concluded with local governments, we will add this product to the supply of tents and partitions for use in evacuation centers, in order to respond quickly in the event of an emergency. By enhancing these soft and hard measures, we intend to contribute to the realization of a society in which people can live in peace.

Detailed information on the commercialized “Roof McGuard” is as follows.

Product name: Roof McGuard

Applications:
This is a “roof protection sheet” that can be used as a quick emergency measure when the roof of a house or other building is damaged by a large typhoon or a major earthquake. It has about three times the weather resistance of ordinary blue sheets, and can be used for a long period of time after installation, up to the main restoration work.

Material Features

Lightweight and easy to handle.
It is highly resistant to ultraviolet rays, and is approximately three times more durable than conventional products.
-Cold resistant, able to withstand temperatures as low as 35 degrees Celsius.
No crease or cut formation, and tear propagation is difficult.
Slip-resistant, non-slip, and waterproof.

■ Type:
Pocket type
A “pocket” into which the sandbag is inserted is welded to the sheet, and simply inserting the sandbag prevents the sheet from scattering. There is also no risk of damage to the sandbags as they are stored in the pockets.

  • Size, weight and price:
