Solving the Challenge of “Interior Temperature Control” in Tent Warehouses

Taiyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Yuki Nomura), a company specializing in large-scale membrane structures (tent structures) as well as civil engineering and logistics materials, has undertaken the design and construction of an expansion to the “Flex House C&W”—a tent warehouse capable of both refrigeration and temperature control—on the premises of the Saitama Kawagoe Service Center of K.I. Fresh Access Co., Ltd.(Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President and CEO: Wataru Tanaka) on the grounds of its Saitama Kawagoe Service Center, and the project was completed in November 2025.

The company’s Saitama Kawagoe Service Center sorts and stores fresh produce destined for supermarkets and other retailers in refrigerated conditions. The center is designed with separate temperature zones: the sorting area is maintained at 15°C, while the refrigerated storage areas are maintained at 1°C and 10°C, respectively.
Previously, the center stored even products that could be kept at room temperature in the 10°C warehouse. With the recent installation of the “Flex House C&W”—a tent-style warehouse designed to maintain temperatures below 25°C even during the summer—the center has optimized management across its three temperature zones, enabling it to maintain the quality of its ever-increasing range of handled products.

“Flex House C&W” is a tent warehouse equipped with “cool” and “warm” functions to regulate the internal temperature. It addresses the challenge of “internal temperature control”—a common issue with conventional tent warehouses—through a double-membrane system and air conditioning units.By using “titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane material” on the exterior and insulating membrane material on the inner layer, heat from the roof’s surface is less likely to transfer to the interior, improving both heat retention and cooling efficiency.Furthermore, the “titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane material” has a solar reflectance of over 75%, which helps suppress temperature rises inside the warehouse. It also features high stain-resistant performance, as organic contaminants are broken down and washed away by rainwater, ensuring the white exterior is maintained over the long term.“Flex House,” our proprietary membrane-structure construction method that achieves short construction periods and low costs, offers superior environmental performance compared to conventional buildings.By using lightweight membrane materials for the roof and walls, it was possible to reduce the amount of supporting steel framing, and since pile work was not required, the project was completed in just five months from the start of foundation work.
