“Flood Prevention Month” Initiatives: Participating in Comprehensive Flood Prevention Drills in 11 Regions Nationwide

Contributing to the improvement of the community's flood preparedness through the provision of disaster prevention products

Taiyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yuki Nomura), a company specializing in large-scale membrane structures (tent structures) as well as civil engineering and logistics materials, has responded to a request from the River Techno Research Association®(Setagaya Ward, Tokyo; Chairman: Katsumi Seki), is participating in comprehensive flood control drills being held in 11 regions nationwide in conjunction with Flood Control Month (May 1–31; June in Hokkaido). The company is providing disaster prevention products such as the triangular water bag “Delta Tube®,” the hybrid air tent “Mac Quick Shelter®,” and the prefabricated temporary water barrier “Delta Panel” to support the exercises aimed at strengthening flood control systems in each region.

Flood Prevention Month

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has designated May (June in Hokkaido) of each year as “Flood Prevention Month.” As part of efforts to prevent and mitigate disasters, the goal is to help every citizen deepen their understanding of the significance and importance of flood prevention as the rainy season and typhoon season approach.Every year, the national government, prefectures, and flood control management organizations (such as municipalities) collaborate to conduct flood control drills, including comprehensive flood control exercises.

Portable Special Seawall “Delta Tube® (Triangular Sandbag)”

This is a long, triangular bag made from highly waterproof material. It is stretched out and laid on top of the embankment, and water is injected into it to prevent water from overflowing the embankment. As an alternative to traditional sandbags, it is lightweight, can be folded compactly for storage and transport, and can be set up quickly. It also provides effective water containment to prevent overtopping and flooding, while being environmentally friendly and resource-efficient.

Hybrid Air Tent “Mac Quick Shelter®”

The Mac Quick Shelter® is a hybrid air tent that can be set up quickly and easily during emergencies and disasters. It can be assembled by four women in 10 to 15 minutes and demonstrates excellent responsiveness for a wide range of applications, including disaster response headquarters and medical aid stations. It has a proven track record of over 3,200 deployments, including for medical purposes during disasters such as the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Reiwa 6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

"Delta Panel," a Modular, Simple Water Barrier

When a guerrilla downpour or similar event is expected to flood a building, this flood prevention tool guards the area where water enters with a strip of structurally stable triangular cross-sectional membrane structure to limit damage. Unlike conventional sandbags, there is no need to secure soil, fill the bags, or pile up the finished sandbags, and installation is completed simply by connecting and assembling them on site.
