Walkability Promotion City gateway from "car-centric" to "people-centric

Saga City supports the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s “Walkable Promotion City” and is promoting the creation of a “comfortable town center where people want to walk”. In the redevelopment of the Saga Castle Exit (South Exit) of JR Saga Station, the plaza has been transformed from a “car-centered” plaza, where most of the rotary and parking spaces in front of the station were occupied, to a “people-centered” plaza.

The membrane structure allows high light permeability, making the space bright under the large roof during the day and beautiful and open at night with indirect lighting. This makes it easy to use for events, etc., and the entire exchange plaza is a comfortable space, which we hope will become a starting point for strolling in the city.

Taiyo Kogyo is a leading manufacturer of large membrane structures, and has a proven track record in the construction of large roofs in front of train stations, such as the Grand Roof at the Yaesu Exit of Tokyo Station. The roof over the plaza at the south exit of JR Saga Station is made of solid wood, and the natural warmth of the wood and the translucent membrane material is a natural feature of the roof. At night, the plaza is beautifully lit by indirect lighting, creating an open plaza in front of the station where people naturally gather.
