Membrane Structure Selected for the Renovation of the Kimino Town Sports Park in Wakayama Prefecture

Complex Facility Utilizing Tent Warehouse Technology Completed

Taiyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo;Osaka Headquarters: Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City; President and CEO: Yuki Nomura), has constructed a multi-purpose facility at “ULTRA SPORTS KIMINO” in Kimino Town Sports Park (Kimino Town, Kaijo District, Wakayama Prefecture) by applying its tent warehouse technology as part of the park’s renovation. This facility is an example of the “FLEX HOUSE FIX” tent warehouse being adapted for use as an indoor practice facility, as well as dining and lodging facilities. It was completed as part of the first phase of the renovation project and opened on April 1, 2026.

The renovation and operation of the Kimino Town Sports Park will be handled by KIMINO STUDIES Co., Ltd. (518 Ugiki, Kimino Town, Kaijo District, Wakayama Prefecture), an SPC company operating under a DBO model, selected through an open proposal process.New facilities—including an indoor practice facility, dining and lodging facilities, and a gymnasium—were constructed within the 45,000-square-meter park, and renovations were carried out on existing facilities such as tennis courts, an artificial turf field, a sports field, a gateball court, and parking lots.

This facility employs membrane structure technology that excels in environmental performance and ease of maintenance. The titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane material has a solar reflectance of 75% or higher and features high stain-resistant performance; organic stains are decomposed and washed away by rainwater, ensuring that the white exterior is maintained over the long term. Our proprietary “Flex System”—a construction method that achieves short construction periods and low costs—offers superior environmental performance compared to conventional buildings. By using lightweight membrane materials for the roof and walls, it is possible to reduce the amount of steel required for the supporting structure.

At night, the membrane structure softly filters the light from within, acting like a lantern that envelops the entire park. This not only enhances a sense of security in areas that tend to be dark but also creates an inviting space that flows seamlessly into the plaza and walking paths. It is expected to become a new kind of park that is open not only to those who “play” sports, but also to those who “watch” and those who “relax.”

About Taiyo Kogyo Corporation

Taiyo Kogyo is a leading company in the field of large-scale membrane structures, with a history spanning over 100 years. At the 1970 Japan World Exposition, the company achieved a world first by constructing a low-rise (height-restricted) pneumatic membrane structure for the U.S. Pavilion, in which the roof was supported solely by air pressure.Since then, the company has participated in large-scale projects around the world, including the installation of the membrane roof at the Tokyo Dome and the Millennium Dome in London (now known as The O2 Arena), one of the world’s largest dome structures. Furthermore, for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai World Expo, the company was involved in the construction of more than 20 pavilions and facilities, playing a key role in the development of the Expo site.
With membrane structure technology—which excels in cost-effectiveness, constructability, light transmission, and design—at its core, the company has expanded its operations from the construction sector into civil engineering, logistics, and environmental fields, thereby supporting safety and peace of mind in society.
Together with our group companies—including TSP Taiyo Co., Ltd., which specializes in event consulting, and Actio Co., Ltd., which manages facility operations—we are committed to providing new value to society under the motto, “Making the world gentler. Making the future warmer.”
